1 dead and 5 injured in a shooting at a festival

One person died and five others were injured in an incident with several shooters at the Mississippi Mudbug Festival at the state fairgrounds in Jackson on Saturday, Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said.

At least two people were arrested at the scene, which has been “contained and secured”, Jones said on social media on Saturday evening.

“Multiple shooters are believed to be involved and the investigation is being conducted as an active shooter situation,” Jones said on Twitter.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist with the investigation, following an officer-involved shooting related to the fairground incident, Jones said.

Several people were transported to local hospitals, he said.

“The other victims appear to be stable at this time and do not appear to be directly involved in the shooting or the circumstances leading up to the shooting,” the sheriff said on social media.

The Mississippi Mudbug Festival, which was scheduled to run through Sunday, featured live bands, carnival rides and a crawfish boil. Musical headliners this year included Blue Oyster Cult, Laine Hardy and Bobby Rush.
