Despite currently being away from the Southern Hemisphere and Australia, Cate Blanchett still got the seasonal memo and dressed for the first day of spring at the 79th Venice Film Festival yesterday.

Blanchett attended the premiere of the psychological drama Tar. The film, in which she plays the lead role of a world-renowned composer and conductor, reportedly received a six-minute standing ovation in Venice. Directed and written by Todd Field, Tar was one of the most anticipated premieres of the Italian international film festival and is already receiving Oscar buzz.

According The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s screening was 15 minutes late due to screams from fans and autograph seekers, trying to get Blanchett’s attention. And honestly, who can blame them?

Naturally, Blanchett dressed for the occasion, arriving on the Venice red carpet wearing a Maison Schiaparelli haute couture corset and flared pants. The corset was adorned with a floral arrangement, which we’d like to believe is an ode to the change of seasons happening back home in Australia.

Tar hits Australian cinemas on January 26, so consider the countdown officially. Fingers crossed, this could be Blanchett’s ticket to her third Oscar.
