Champ Day: The Lake Champlain Monster Festival is scheduled for August 5 and 6 –

All are invited to gather on the beautiful Lake Champlain waterfront in Port Henry, NY to celebrate the monster of Lake Champlain with legendary fun on the 37th annual Day of Champions: The Festival of monsters of Lake Champlain. The free, crowd-pleasing event features special guests like Penelope the Clown, Cardboard Boat Races, a CryptoCave Meet & Greet, Champ Lure Contest, Creative Cove for Kids, Vendor Marketplace, food and more. Moreover.

New this year is a Champ Day weekend kick-off event, Champ’s Monster Movie Night, taking place Friday, August 5 at 7 p.m. on Bulwagga Bay Beach in Port Henry. The star movie of the night will be “Monster from the Ocean Floor,” a fun, old-fashioned 1950s monster movie suitable for all ages. The film will be presented by Andy McDougall, a film collector from Plattsburgh, NY. In addition to the screening of the film, guests are encouraged to enter a costume contest, in which those who wear a beach/tiki, retro 1950s or monster-themed outfit have a chance to win a prize.

The main event is scheduled for Saturday August 6th at Champ Beach Park, Beach Road at the north end of Port Henry.

The festival‘s Cardboard Boat Race asks guests to build a boat that will withstand the waters of Lake Champlain. The construction of the boats begins at 10 a.m. and the race begins at noon. All supplies will be provided. Festival organizers thanked the Red Brick Cafe & Village Inn, Star Way, Port Henry, NY for sponsoring the Cardboard Boat Race. *NOTE: Water shoes are strongly recommended for race participants due to the possible presence of zebra mussels on the bottom of the lake.
