Cristiano Ronaldo goalscoring stat reveals transfer problem for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

The extent of Manchester United’s reliance on Cristiano Ronaldo for goals this season has been revealed.

Ronaldo is United’s top scorer with 24 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions this term. The striker endured his longest goalscoring drought for over a decade during the hectic holiday season, but he has since emphatically ended that barren run.

The 37-year-old has been nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for April despite being out for two matches during the month. Ronaldo has scored five goals in four games against Everton, Norwich, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Ronaldo has shown no signs of slowing down and only Mohamed Salah (22) and Son Heung-Min (20) have more goals than him (18) in the Premier League. Ronaldo has often single-handedly won United games with his goals.

Edinson Cavani struggled with injuries and Mason Greenwood was unavailable which left Ronaldo with the onus to score. Ronaldo has risen to that challenge, but United’s overreliance on him is cause for concern, according to new data revealed by British player.

Ronaldo has scored 31.6% of United’s goals this season, which is United’s third most dependent on a player since the start of the Premier League. This record is broken only by the real season of Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2002/03.

The average of the previous 29 seasons of Premier League football has been that United’s top scorer accounts for just 25% of the team’s goals, proving that Ronaldo hasn’t received much support from his teammates this season.

Although Erik ten Hag is expected to include Ronaldo in his plans, United are on the hunt for a new centre-forward this summer.
