Budget TS 2022: Except slight modification of KCR nutritional kits, no new programs for women

Hyderabad: Before listing the state government programs for women, Finance Minister Harish Rao wished all women in Telangana a very Happy International Women’s Day in advance. But the budget did not have much to offer women in the state outside of the existing mechanisms.

Finance Minister T. Harish Rao said on Monday that women play a key role in the development of society. But the plans that were read in his budget speech were all existing plans. The only modification or slight improvement concerns the “KCR nutritional kits” which have been extended to focus exclusively on the eradication of anemia.

KCR nutritional kits for the eradication of anemia

Explaining the scheme, Minister Rao said: “For this scheme, the government has identified nine districts in the state – Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Bhadrachalam Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Kamareddy, Vikarabad, Mulugu, Jogulamba Gadwal and Nagarkurnool – where The problem of anemia is common among pregnant women and nursing mothers. To overcome this problem, the government has decided to distribute a kit called “KCR nutrition kit. It will contain all the necessary complementary nutrition. It is expected that each approximately 1 year, 25,000 women will benefit from this program.”

KCR Kits

The Telangana government had introduced KCR kits in 2017 for the welfare of mother and child. Explaining the scheme, Mr. Rao said, “If a boy is born, an amount of Rs. 12,000 is paid to the mother and if a girl is born, the amount is increased to Rs. 13,000. For the benefit of the mother and the newborn, a kit of 16 different items is distributed.”

Mr. Rao said that so far the government has distributed 10,85,462 KCR kits and with the introduction of the program, the number of institutional deliveries in public hospitals has increased from 30.5% to 56%. .

Arogya Lakshmi

The government had introduced the Aarogya Lakshmi program in 2018 to ensure nutrition security for poor women. Through this program, pregnant women receive nutritious food in Anganwadis. The Minister said that all Anganwadis in Telangana now provide nutritious food and added that the menu has also been improved. He said that until 2014, only 56% of Anganwadis provided such nutritious food.

“Now in Telangana, the TRS government has not only ensured that 100% of Anganwadis provide nutritious food, but has improved the menu and included milk and eggs,” the minister added.

Balika Arogya Raksha Scheme (Health and Hygiene Kits)

The state government has been distributing health and hygiene kits to girls studying in public schools and public colleges since 2018. The minister expressed hope that the scheme would benefit seven lakh girls across the state .

Saris Bathukamma

Describing how important the Bathukamma festival is to the state and its women, the minister said, “The women of Telangana celebrate the Bathukamma festival in style. After the formation of the state, the government celebrates Bathukamma as a state festival. On the occasion of Bathukamma, the government, as a sign of respect for women, distributes saris.

On the occasion of Ramzan and Christmas, minority women also receive saris. Recently, the government distributed Pochampally saris to Anganwadi workers. He also added that such initiatives also help manual and power loom workers.

Wage hike for Anganwadi workers

Minister Rao said the wages of Anganwadi workers had been increased thanks to TRS government initiatives. “When Telangana was formed, the salary of an Anganwadi worker was Rs 4,200. era have crushed the unrest by deploying mounted police. The TRS government has understood the problems of Anganwadi workers. At present, the salary is raised to Rs. 13,650,” the Minister added.

He further said that the salary of mini-Anganwadi teachers has been increased to Rs. 7,800 and that of Anganwadi helpers to Rs. 7,800. so, bearing the additional expenses, the government of Telangana increased the salaries more than three times. Telangana is now one of the main states where Anganwadi workers get the highest salaries,” said Mr. Rao.

Bharosa Centers

The government has established Bharosa centers across the state. These centers offer protection, immediate assistance and legal and medical assistance to women victims of domestic violence. The government has also established POCSO courts to try cases related to child sexual abuse, Rao said. The funds necessary for the functioning of these courts are provided. To control the threat of child trafficking in the 33 districts of the state, special Bala Rakshaka vehicles are put in place.
