Hannibal Mejbri has already told Erik ten Hag what he wants at Manchester United next season – Steven Railston
Hannibal Mejbri made more appearances for the Tunisian national team than for the Manchester United first team last season.
This is unlikely to happen again next season. Ralf Rangnick promoted Hannibal to first-team training and the youngster appeared to seize the opportunity with both hands. Senior professionals who have played with Hannibal have all been impressed.
Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic are among the players who predicted that Hannibal is set for a long and prosperous career. The 19-year-old has captured the imagination behind the scenes at Carrington but hasn’t really had a chance to prove himself to the fans yet. The midfielder may have been shaped in Paris, where he spent most of his youth, but Tunisia is in his blood. The national team wanted Hannibal to take part in the FIFA Arab Cup in December and it was an offer he was never going to refuse.
Hannibal excelled in the tournament, helping Tunisia reach the final, and Rangnick had been monitoring his progress. Hannibal returned to Manchester for the festive period, but the Africa Cup of Nations, held in January, was on the horizon.
The Manchester Evening News understands that Hannibal had the opportunity to take a vacation between the Arab Cup and AFCON, but instead chose to return to Carrington in order to train with the senior team and catch Rangnick’s attention.
Hannibal managed to catch Rangnick’s attention but now has to show that admirable dedication under Erik ten Hag, who will consider his midfield options in pre-season. Hannibal is desperate for more first-team minutes next season.
Ten Hag is expected to play with a midfield three at United and Hannibal will face competition from Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and James Garner to play. That’s without mentioning that United are looking for a defensive midfielder, but Hannibal’s versatility ensures him the best possible chance for more minutes.
“To be honest with you, I’ll do my best wherever I play on the pitch,” Hannibal admitted last year. wing. I think I have the qualities to play in all these positions.
“I just need to study each one of them to make sure I understand them tactically, especially without the ball, and then when I have the ball I just have to play my own game and not feel any pressure. Until Now it was working fine.”
Hannibal has the mentality required to succeed and fans should see more of him next season.
