LISBON – New additions are coming to the 2022 Johnny Appleseed Festival to be held September 17-18 in downtown Lisbon in the Village Square.

The event, organized by the Lisbon Region Chamber of Commerce and now in its 54th year, will this year feature two stages for live entertainment. Ten bands including: New Wave Nation, Giovaun, Blind Colors, Redline Feline, The Lucky Nothings Band, 7% Superstar, Zach Byers, Bill Crawford, Pure Gold, “Tribute Tape”, 2021 Appleseed’s Got Talent winner James Byrne and several local performers will be split between the newly renovated Main Stage in front of the Courthouse and the new Washington Street Stage.

The $7,000 renovation to the main stage features gloss apple red paint, new flooring and white powder-coated side panels. The direction is also different for the main stage this year. The main stage will face halfway. According to Lindsey Smoot, executive director of the Lisbon Region Chamber of Commerce, two stages means twice the fun.

For this year’s festival, Johnny Appleseed will have a booth. The replica of the trapper’s cabin from the 1800s will be installed in the Gazebo square. The cabin was using nails. Instead, it was built using the dovetail method and wooden pins and assembled like giant Lincoln logs, Smoot said. It is fully equipped with a mini ventral stove and much more. Children attending the festival will be able to enter and explore the cabin, which will be camped out for the weekend by Johnny Appleseed himself.

Another novelty this year is the possibility of scanning a QR code and bringing up the mobile website which includes the program of the stages and information on the various contests.

“I tried to make it as user-friendly as possible this year,” Smoot said.

The Ferris wheel will also be back at the festival.

For the kids there will be free inflatable ax throws, The Little Roaming Railroad for $3 a ride, free games and a basketball throwing game for $1, where each child will win a prize.

“I know not everyone will be able to afford the $20 wristbands for the rides,” Smoot said. “We don’t set those prices. The amusement company sets these prices, so I made sure we had something free for the kids.

There will be a children’s area at South Market and Washington streets.

The festival will have around 35 food vendors and around 100 artisans and non-profit organizations.

“There is no room for more sellers” Smoot said. “My festival is bigger this year and I still don’t have a place.”

The festival still needs $1,200 from sponsors for tower lights and porta johns and $1,000 for band sponsors.
