Ladakh Ice-climbing Fest ends – Latest news from Jammu and Kashmir | Tourism

LEH, March 5: The 3rd edition of Ladakh Ice Climbing Festival has concluded in Gangles here today.
President/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv Tashi Gyalson was the chief guest on the occasion. DYSSO Leh Tsering Tashi was the guest of honor and founder of SECMOL, Sonam Wangchuk was the special guest, besides President ALGHA, President ALTOA and President Leh Phu-Dho also graced the event.
The LMGA President, in his welcome speech, highlighted the motive behind conducting such adventure sports and talked about the LMGA’s contribution to the creation of the ice climbing festival.
He also spoke about the requirement for travel insurance for mountaineering and hiking expeditions. He said the idea highlights the aim of promoting winter tourism in Ladakh and the need to nurture more young Ladakh talents in winter adventure sports.
CEC Gyalson congratulated the entire organizing team for the initiative to create this artificial glacier, to promote and encourage the youth of Leh to participate in such winter adventure sports. He highlighted the importance of artificial glaciers for the sustainability of Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem and added that this sport has the potential to boost winter tourism in Ladakh.
The festival was organized by the Ladakh Mountain Guide Association (LMGA) in collaboration with District Youth Services and Sports, Leh, ALTOA, Venture Ladakh, Leh Phu-Dho Culture, Welfare Society, HIAL and Mero Expedition.
