News Corp got it wrong all weekend

If you thought News Corp would take a break from printing questionable stories about the upcoming federal election over the long weekend, you’d be wrong.

After a kind of disaster that took place in the data visualization service The Sun HeraldA pie chart listing the reader’s thoughts on whether Anthony Albanese’s COVID-19 diagnosis would affect Labor’s “arty” chances this year has been released with an…er…interesting twist.

Interestingly, while the editors of The Sun Herald later corrected the incorrect spelling of “part” on the offending chart, they mysteriously kept the majority of the incorrect pie chart intact.

Somewhere else, The Australian published an article reporting on the recent Newspoll poll with the headline “Morrison Builds Lead Over Albanese”. Unfortunately, that wasn’t really the truth.

While the latest Newspoll results showed a slight increase in the number of Scott Morrison as the preferred Prime Minister (from 36 to 37%), the Labor Party was recorded at the top of the two-party preferred poll with a majority of 53 against 47.

Unlike the faithful creators of The Herald Sun pie chart, editors for The Australian would later revise their title with something more specific.

I mean, really, factually incorrect charts are just some of the nice trimmings of the beautiful (horrible) holiday season known as the Australian Federal Election. Regularly served with a side of transphobia and madness.
